Arum with Mayweather Sr. in 2002

Bob Arum, president for Top Rank Promotions, which owns the rights for the boxing fights of Manny Pacquiao, has one wish; he hopes that the public and some private companies working behind the boxing scenes will put enough pressure on Floyd Mayweather Jr. and egg him to finally accept the fight against the Filipino in 2015.

“Let's hope there’s always people putting pressure on Mayweather to sign that contract next year,” the 82-year-old boxing promoter stated via abs-cbnnews.com.

In the same article, the octogenarian did not hold back in taking shots at the undefeated American contending that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not taking the Pacquiao fight because he wants to protect his unblemished record.

“That takes an attorney general and superman to get somebody like Mayweather on the ring where he has no intention of fighting Pacquiao because he knows that’s the end of his undefeated record,” Arum added, insinuating that Pacquiao will beat Mayweather should the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world today meet inside the squared ring.

This is not the first time that Arum has criticised Mayweather with the former mentioning in a September 2014 interview that the latter is also afraid of southpaw boxers that’s why Mayweather won’t ever pick Pacquiao, who is known for his powerful left-hander.

“I promoted the guy for ten years and I know how difficult it was to get him in the ring with any southpaw. When you talk about a southpaw who can move like Manny, that’s not the kind of opponent that Mayweather feels he would do well against,” Arum said via the Telegraph then. “That’s the problem. If Manny agreed to fight right-handed, the fight would be agreed in five minutes.”

The boxing rumour mill has been filled with Mayweather vs. Pacquiao speculations for years now but both sides have never reached an agreement to make the match happen. One of the latest has been the declaration of Floyd Mayweather Sr. that his son was going to indeed pick the Filipino for a bout in 2015 but Mayweather Jr. has since debunked his father’s speculations and even threatened the elderly Mayweather, who is also Floyd Jr.’s trainer, to be booted out of The Money Team if he continues to mouth off on the probable fight.

Mayweather has yet to announce which fighter or fighters he is going to face in 2015 and Pacquiao is just one of the many prospects including the likes of Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez.

As for the “people putting pressure” on Mayweather angle, it appears Arum is also asking CBS/Showtime— although not out loud and too specific— to put that pressure on their top ward. Mayweather has recently re-signed an extension with the boxing promotion. Arum’s fighters in Top Rank are with rival HBO Sports.

Mayweather improved to 47-0-0 (26 KOs) in his boxing career after defeating Marcos Maidana (35-5-0, 31 KOs) in a rematch last September while Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will face another undefeated American in Chris Algieri (20-0-0, 8 KOs) on Nov. 23, 2014 (Nov. 22 in the United States) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macau.
