Flip phones are back. Apparently, the vehement demand for flip phones in South Korea seems to have brought back the long-forgotten device. This time around, LG and Samsung are planning to release flip smartphones at least once every year. Therefore, flip phone fans from around the world can expect to see the retro devices in the near future.

For starters, LG has unveiled its latest clam-shell clad flip smartphone named LG Wine Smart. It is an Android O- based smartphone that is sleek and looks classic from every angle. The device has an array of large buttons as the keypad. Moreover, the LG Wine Smart features a 3.5-inch HVGA display with 320 x 480 pixels screen resolution, according to Phone Arena.

Under the hood, the flip smartphone is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. Also, it is backed by a good-enough 1 GB of RAM and it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS along with LG's new user interface on top of it. When it comes to memory, the handset comes equipped with 4 GB of in-built storage capacity with no expandable storage option.

Furthermore, the phone sports an 8 MP rear-facing camera unit and a 0.3 MP VGA shooter at the front. This retro phone is backed by a good 1700 mAh battery unit. Speaking of connectivity options, the LG Wine Smart supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and LTE Cat. 4. Exclusive to South Korean markets, the device backs T-DMB technology to support digital TV, radio and data casting.

The release date of the LG Wine Smart is pegged for Sept. 26 in South Korea. Even though the cost details are not available at this point, the device is expected to be inexpensive. Lastly, this retro flip phone comes in black and white shades.
