The erstwhile “flip phone” is apparently making a comeback with a cool new device from Samsung. The smartphone, dubbed “Samsung SM-G9198,” has reportedly been spotted at the TENAA website, which is the FCC equivalent of China. Needless to say, this retro device comes with a clamshell form factor.

It is worth reminding that, the Samsung SM-G9198 smartphone is reportedly the successor of Samsung SM-G9098, released in 2014. Even though, this handset comes with a smaller display, the specifications on board are phenomenal for a flip phone. Readers would be surprised to know that, this retro smartphone will reportedly be powered by a hexa-core (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808) processor, clocked at 1.8 GHz. Plus, the device will apparently be backed by a good 2 GB of RAM configuration, according to GSM Arena.

When it comes to memory specification, this Samsung device will reportedly come with 16 GB of built-in storage capacity and microSD card slot for further expansion. Other key Samsung SM-G9198 specifications include a pocket-friendly 3.91-inch display unit and a same sized keypad unit. In addition, this display will apparently be complemented by a solid 1,280 x 768 pixels screen resolution. Furthermore, the handset will sport a killer 16 MP rear-facing camera unit, in addition to a generous 5 MP front-facing snapper for selfies.

To top it off, the Samsung SM-G9198 will reportedly house a heart rate monitor. On the software end, the device will run on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, straight out of the box. Speaking of size, the smartphone will apparently come with the following dimension: 119.7 x 66.6 x 16.7 mm (when the device is closed). Apart from the standard connectivity options, the phone will also support 4G LTE.

In any case, readers should note that, Samsung has not announced the release date of the new SM-G9198 yet. Plus, the device will apparently debut in China. However, there’s no official information available to ascertain the availability outside China, at this point.

What do you think of the Samsung SM-G9198? In case the handset gets released outside China, will you be interested in buying a flip phone that ruled the early 2000s? Will a 16 MP camera and Snapdragon 808 chip make you purchase this device? Feel free to leave comment.
