Similar to how one of the game’s many animatronic nightmares might reach the player, the release of “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” by Scott Cawthon is considered as a bit of a surprise. The game was teased last month with a teaser trailer, along with some creepy imagery from the game, and now it’s available to Steam users for $7.99.

The third iteration of the hit horror game takes things in an unexpected direction. Rather than being a direct sequel to the second game, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” is set 30 years after the events of the first game. According to the Steam website, the tale of what happened in the first game is merely a myth now, but the new owners of the place are determined to bring back some scares as they re-imagine the place as a horror attraction called “Fazbear’s Fright: The Horror Attraction.”

A lengthy playthrough by Kotaku has revealed quite a few details about “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3,” though not all of them appear to be positive. Apparently, nothing too important or scary happens in the first night at Freddy’s, as it’s more of a tutorial level more than anything else.

Another negative about the story is the situation reportedly feels a bit forced compared with the previous games. While the first two games had the player be a miserable security guard, this one has players as part of the attraction somehow. It appears to be an attempt at being Meta about the series, though that is currently unconfirmed.

However, there are a few new things that are in this game that sets it apart from its predecessors. Apparently, there are now mini-games for the user to participate in and are more than just side attractions for the game. These mini-games must be completed to get the “good” ending, as a regular playthrough leads to a bad one right away.

Just like the previous games, multiple video walkthroughs have made their way to YouTube and are filled with spoilers from the game, along with tips on how to get certain endings. It’s clear that the series has risen in popularity, and any curious fans can get the game right now. According to this Reddit thread, it could also be the last one in the "Five Nights at Freddy's" series.
