Obviously, the petition on Change.org worked because Charlie Hunnam has officially dropped out from the film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey." Does this mean that "White Collar" star, Matt Bomer is set to replace the "Sons of Anarchy" star for the part of Christian Grey?

E.L. James shocked a lot of fans following her cast announcement last September on her Twitter account. Immediately after introducing Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey, the two actors received tons of tweet heat. In fact, a petition had sparked on Change.org demanding the producers replace Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson with fan favourites Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel.

To date, the petition has over 85,000 signatures and counting. By the looks of it, there is no need for additional signatures following the announcement made over the weekend by Universal Pictures.

"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," said Universal Pictures in a report by USA Today.

With Hunnam dropping out of the part, recasting is slated to take place to keep up with production schedule. With the tight leash on the film, would producers hand pick the fan favourite, Matt Bomer, for the part?

Fans are desperately hoping so. Other than Bomer, other strong contenders in the running for Christian Grey include Cilian Murphy, Ian Somerhalder, Chace Crawford, Alex Pettyfer, Robert Pattinson, Ryan Gosling and Liam Hemsworth.

With all the other big shots in the Hollywood business, would Matt Bomer rise above the rest? Check out the slideshow to see more of this "White Collar" star eyed for the part of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey."
