Fifty Shades of Grey movie casting updates remain shrouded in mystery as production nears for the screen adaptation of E.L. James' erotic series. Stephen Amell and Armie Hammer are both fan favourites for the movie, but they've "rejected" Christian Grey. Both actors explain why.

"Was on a flight yesterday evening back to LA with no movie, so I grabbed 50 Shades of Grey and burned through it," Stephen wrote for his fans. "Ummm... I hope they get the movie made, and I'm sure someone will be excellent in it. That person will not be me."

Stephen Amell is well aware his fans are hoping he could channel the billionaire Oliver Queen into the coveted role of Christian Grey for "Fifty Shades of Grey." In March, he posted to his Facebook a clip, in which he sounded eager for the lead role.

"I get questions about Christian Grey all the time," Stephen says in the clip. Then he stresses, "I know this, because I had a meeting about it." Several weeks later, his tune has changed.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, Amell said, Christian Grey is not interesting enough for him.

"I didn't find [Christian's] character to be totally redeeming," said the actor. "Jason on 'Hung' was a prostitute, but he was kind of an interesting prostitute!" he explained further. Amell played Jason in the HBO production 'Hung.' Now he's busy as Oliver Queen in the hit The CW series, "Arrow" (DC Comics' Green Arrow adaptation).

Armie Hammer, who joins Johnny Depp in Lone Ranger, has a more straightforward answer for not wanting to play Christian Grey.

"No one actually offered me the movie, but while I was working on Lone Ranger my agent brought it up, and I said 'Nope,'" Hammer told Playboy magazine. "I mean, come on - it's just mommy porn. I'm not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone's mouth. That doesn't do it for me."

Stephen Amell and Armie Hammer are both handsome and well-built actors who generally fit the Grey role. But their fans have got to go with the other choices for the role.

Focus Features and Universal got the film rights for James' "mommy porn" fiction. Sam Taylor-Johnson has recently been named as the 'Fifty Shades' director.
