Fifty Shades of Grey movie casting is still under way. The lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele may or may not still be open. Based on reports, however, Matt Bomer seems to be losing out to Henry Cavill and other superheroes.

The film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic series Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to be steamy, racy, and yet romantic. FSOG fans have been dream casting the perfect Christian Grey, the billionaire sex demigod who has a thing for BDSM. Matt Bomer (White Collar) and Henry Cavill (Superman 2013) are both frequent poll leaders for the massively popular role.

It does seem, however, that the odds are against Matt. A year ago, "American Psycho" writer Bret Easton Ellis took to Twitter to dish his disapproving thoughts on Matt playing Christian. Ellis wanted to write the screenplay for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, but the job later went to Kelly Marcel.

At the time, Henry Cavill was enjoying the spotlight ahead of the theatre run of Man of Steel. Fans were also supporting other superheroes for the controversial gig. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Chris Evans (Captain America) are two of the other superheroes being fan-casted for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.

"Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game," Ellis tweeted, sparking rage among Bomer fans. In USA's White Collar, the fans argued, Bomer's con-man-turned-FBI-consultant Neal Caffrey definitely shows a passionate interest in women.

An actor is called as such because the person acting transforms once the cameras start rolling. That said, Matt Bomer can rock Christian Grey if he's a brilliant actor. And he is. Otherwise, White Collar would not be filming for Season 5.

Setting gender bias aside, Matt may be losing out to Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans in terms of age. Matt is 35. Henry Cavill and Chris Hemsworth are 30. Chris Evans is 32. Even for the role of Christian's elder brother Elliott Grey, Matt does not seem to be an ideal match.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie will run in theatres in 2014. The serving of the FSOG trilogy could be completed in 2017 or 2018, at the earliest. Matt Bomer is not necessarily losing out to superheroes in terms of popularity. Christian Grey just has to be convincingly under 30 at the beginning of the series.
