"Vampire Diaries" fans aren't likely to see their favourite celebrity, Ian Somerhalder, nab the coveted role of Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey." In an interview with author E.L. James, Ian is officially out of the running. Despite the earlier hints stated here and there, it is unlikely Ian will ever star in the BDSM-themed film.

Fans have been hoping since 2012that "Vampire Diaries" star, Ian Somerhalder, would nab the lead role of Christian Grey in the upcoming film adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey." Ever since Ian had expressed interest in the role, fans have been rooting for the hunky star. Yet, it looks as if all the hard work won't be paying off because Somerhalder won't ever star in the film.

According to countless tabloid posts, E.L. James had clearly stated at the Comic Con 2013 that the part of Christian Grey "won't go to Ian." The blow about the reveal might have crashed a few dreams by now but Ian could have already been hinting he'd never had gotten the part earlier on.

"There are so many young boys in Hollywood up for this role. I think they have a very big job a head of them casting this role. I can't say anything other than it's a very interesting story, and whoever plays that role is going to have a lot of fun [come] rehearsal time," said Ian in his March 13 interview with Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live."

For one, Ian out of the running for the coveted role only means that other contenders such as Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill have a higher chance at coveting the role. So, who would be playing the iconic role of Christian Grey with Ian out of the running?
