Fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" just might finally hear the news they've been waiting for. Analysing all the hints thrown around here and there by author E.L. James, it's safe to assume that Ian Somerhalder could be cast as Christian Grey. Here are five hints why the "Vampire Diaries" star could be starring in the S&M film adaptation.

Universal Studios and Focus Features have secured the rights to producing E.L. James' erotica novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey." To date, scriptwriter Kelly Marcel is adding a few finishing touches to the script. With director Sam Taylor-Johnson having joined the bandwagon last month, it'll only be a few days more wait before an official cast is revealed.

The film adaptation is set for release on August 2014. Numerous casting polls have been up on the web with fans naming their favourites for the role of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The strongest contenders so far for the role of Grey include Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill and Ian Somerhalder. On the other hand, favourites for the role of Anastasia Steele include Alexis Bledel, Emilia Clarke, Felicity Jones and Melissa Benoist.

However, a few web tabloids claim that a Hollywood hunk has already nabbed the role judging from the hints here and there. E.L. James did say that her choices for Christian Grey are down to three actors of which could possibly include Ian Somerhalder of "The Vampire Diaries."
