Many critics have aired different points of view on the popular erotic trilogy by E.L. James. It started off as free-for-all fan fiction inspired by the Twilight saga written by Stephenie Meyer, another writer criticized for her "weak prose."

For Princeton professor April Alliston, the book is "no literary masterpiece." She did acknowledge, however that Fifty Shades "is more than parasitic fan fiction based on the recent Twilight vampire series."

In its review titled "Mommy Porn?" The Telegraph criticised the book as "treacly cliché," but noted that its readers will be "discussing it for years to come."

The Columbus Dispatch described James' prose as "clunky," while the Chicago Tribune noted the writing was "sprinkled liberally and repeatedly with asinine phrases." None of these criticisms weakened the sales of the Twilight-inspired erotic fiction. If anything, the criticisms have only increased the popularity of the trilogy.

The book series was eventually called "mummy porn," with many women eagerly posting on Facebook and Twittter that they want to find their own Christian.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" will soon be produced for the big screen. The fans have chosen their favorite celebrities to play the roles of BDSM dominant Christian Grey and submissive Anastasia Steele. However, producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti have yet to announce who will play these sensational roles. Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder, Lily Collins and Alexis Bledel are some of those ranking well in online social media surveys.
