"Gossip Girl" fans are fawning over the latest casting news for the highly-anticipated film release of "Fifty Shades of Grey." The brooding and bad-boy, Ed Westwick joins the poll for the potential list of candidates fit to play Christian Grey. Would Ed be the perfect choice to play the 27-year old entrepreneur?

Some fans claim it a shocking suggestion but "Gossip Girl" fans think it's about time. Ed Westwick has been nominated to play the role of Christian Grey. Wetpaint reveals that the actor is the newest name on the list. Fan favorites for Christian Grey include Ian Somerhalder of "The Vampire Diaries", Henry Cavill of "Man of Steel" and Matt Bomer of "White Collar."

Not exactly a household name for "Fifty Shades" fans, Ed Westwick surprisingly makes it to the top fan poll list with 43% - a number not all potential candidates manage to reach. Thanks to Ed's sex appeal and not to mention having impeccable good looks, Ed had been nominated for Mr. Grey.

"Gossip Girl" may have been Ed's longest running show but right after Westwick had gone on to venture onto big screen adaptations. As of late, Westwick wrapped up production with the film "Romeo and Juliet." Now, with the number of votes Ed Westwick is getting he could just be a potential Christian Grey.

Though not all "Fifty Shades" fans are happy with the results, some have gone on to release negative comments on the fan poll results.

"guys are you serious! Ed Westwick? no offence, I am also a huge fan of GG and Ed, but he is just not suitable for the role.... guys please be realistic," stated one fan while another went on to add, "I don't care how many votes anyone else gets, there's only one christian grey "MATT BOMER"

As for the other contenders, Matt Bomer continues to get impressive results with 32% of fan votes while Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill have been gathering dust behind Bomer.
