Team USA has yet to be challenged at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. The Round of 16 knockout stages begin on Saturday and they are expected to win in another blowout against Mexico, which did enough in their group to qualify to the next round.

How They Qualified to the Round of 16

Team USA, as expected, went without a loss in Group C defeating Ukraine, 95-71; Dominican Republic, 106-71; New Zealand, 98-71; Turkey, 98-77; and Finland, 114-55 for five wins in five games. The Americans are living up to the hype so far winning by an average margin of 33.2 points and were never in real trouble in the five matches thus far.

Meanwhile, Mexico defeated South Korea, 87-71; Angola, 79-55 but lost to Australia, 70-62; Slovenia, 89-68 and Lithuania, 87-74. The Mexicans were actually tied with Angola with a 2-3 record after the group phase but since they beat their African counterparts they advanced to the next round.

Mexico vs. USA - Key Players

Team USA's big men duo of Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried are the ones doing major damage in Spain so far. The New Orleans Pelicans star is averaging a team-high 15.8 points with 6.4 rebounds per game while the Denver Nuggets star is logging in a team-high 7.8 rebounds with 13.8 markers per game.

As with any American team, any player can explode any given night; James Harden (12.6 PPG and 4.4 APG) of the Houston Rockets; Klay Thompson (10.2 PPG) and Stephen Curry (9.4 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 3.8 APG) of the Golden State Warriors; and Kyrie Irving (9.8 PPG) of the Cleveland Cavaliers are all expected to contribute offensively against Mexico and the next opponents in the knockout rounds.

Meanwhile, Mexico will be also be led by players who has had experience in the NBA. Gustavo Ayon, who played for the Atlanta Hawks last season, leads the squad with 15.8 points per game while adding 7.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Jorge Gutierrez, who was a third-string back-up point guard with the Brooklyn Nets, averages 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the tournament.

Other Mexican players to watch out for are power forward Hector Hernandez (11.2 PPG and 6.3 RPG) and shooting guard Francisco Cruz.

Historically, these teams have never met in the big stage many times with the Americans leading their head-to-head series, 2-0.
