Enstone's team owner, Gerard Lopez claimed that if Fernando Alonso should return to the cockpit of a formula one car from Enstone in the future, he wouldn't be surprised. Thus far, everything about the Spaniard's future has been a blur except for the fact that his five-year contract with Ferrari is about to reach an impasse.

It is thought that both Ferrari and Alonso are waiting each other to declare in public that it is over and breach their contract, which will either save or cost Ferrari $50 million payout due to the Spaniard.

The 33-year-old Alonso has decided to leave Ferrari due to two reasons, according to the outgoing Ferrari chief, Luca de Montezemolo. The two-time world champion has been rumoured to leave because he "can't wait much longer" to take home another world title.

During an interview in the Italian television Rai, De Montezemolo confirmed the reasons why Alonso is leaving the Italian giants at end of the season, despite the two years left in his contract. De Montezemolo further claimed that Alonso needs new motivation and his failure to win this season has been difficult for him. "He's leaving for two reasons. One is he want to test himself in another environment, and two because he's at an age where he can't wait much longer if he wants to triumph again," De Montezemolo claimed according to a report in iAfrica.

"Yes Luca said something," Alonso is quoted by Germany's Focus, "but I have been every day on the Ferrari Web site and nothing has been written."

Rumours suggest that the Spaniard Formula One driver has lost faith in the ability of the Italian giants to make a winning car. Moreover, it has been perceived that Ferrari's supposed signing of Sebastian Vettel caught the Spaniard by surprise, leaving him to move to McLaren-Honda or take a sabbatical. But then again, Lotus could be the ideal stepping stone for a Mercedes deal for Alonso that even Lopez is not ruling out. Currently, Alonso sits third in the drivers' championship with three more races left of the championship.
