The current Formula One, or F1 season has been tough for two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, but he remains optimistic that he will win another title. Alonso describes the 2015 season as a “test year” for his comeback season with McLaren and he is positive that he will score another Grand Prix win for the outfit next season.

Alonso has struggled prior the start of the current season. He was involved in a high-speed crash in the pre-season testing in Barcelona that made him miss the first race at Albert Park. In all the five races that he participated, he had to retire his MP4-30 three times. The last time was during the sixth round at the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo.

However, Alonso is buoyant that he and his team at McLaren-Honda will come back stronger in 2016. According to Alonso, he still wants to be a “world champion” and he knows he has what it takes to become a world champion. This year marks the ninth consecutive season that Alonso will not be able to win the world title again that he won in 2005 and 2006.

“This year, it is not possible,” Alonso said in an article by Daily Star. “So the more problems that happen in this championship, the better.”

Alonso added that he and his team at McLaren along with its renewed partnership with Honda will make sure that the problems that they have encountered this season will not happen again next year.

In the meantime, Alonso has his eyes set on the next race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada, which takes place from June 5 to June 7. Although he was hampered with various technical issues with his car in his previous races, he is looking forward to have a “trouble-free weekend” at Montreal and hopeful that he will get the best possible performance from his car and earn his first points in the season.

Alonso is currently in the 17th place in the latest standing of F1 World Championship. He had three retirements (Malaysia, Spain, and Monaco) in five races. He finished at the 12th and 11th places at the Chinese Grand Prix and Bahrain Grand Prix, respectively.
