The Spaniard Fernando Alonso has decided to leave Ferrari because he "can't wait much longer" to win another world title, according to the outgoing Ferrari chief Luca de Montezemolo. The two-time world champion has been rumoured to leave the Italian giants at the end of the current season, which is two years before the expiration of his contract.

De Montezemolo confirmed to the Italian television Rai that Alonso is leaving Ferrari for.

"He's leaving for two reasons. One is he want to test himself in another environment, and two because he's at an age where he can't wait much longer if he wants to triumph again," De Montezemolo claimed according to a report in iAfrica.

It has been rumoured that Alonso has lost faith in Ferrari's inability to produce a winning car. Thus far, he sits third in the drivers' championship with three more races left of the championship. De Montezemolo, who recently left his post as the president of the company further claimed that Alonso failure to win this year hurt him and he need fresh motivation. Fernando Alonso's Ferrari contract will expire at the end of 2016, which means that leaving now means that he will be two years short of its expiry.

On the other hand, the German luxury car company Audi might enter the F1 championship series with Fernando Alonso as the main driver, according to Auto Express. Instead of having a full racing team like Ferrari or Mercedes, Audi might be an engine supplier and F1 car manufacturer like Red Bull and Toro Rosso. As such, there is no certain way to tell if the German company will really enter F1 in 2016.

The Volkswagen owned company has never competed in the modern F1 championship, which started in 1950 but before the World War II, when Audi was called the Auto Union it has competed in Grand Prix racing. Since then, it has never joined the F1 circuit although its competitors remained in F1.

Meanwhile, amid the speculations of Alonso's future destination, Sebastian Vettel announced last week that he will be quitting Red Bull. The four-time world champion is rumoured to head to Ferrari.
