Justice could come swiftly for the family of Miss Australia World finalist Elyse Miller Kennedy who died on Aug 10, one week after her car crashed with another vehicle driven by a French tourist. On Saturday, the tourist will face the Cairns Magistrates Court to answer reckless driving causing death charges.

9News reports that the 24-year-old French woman was driving on the wrong side of the road at about 7 pm on Aug 3. Her vehicle collided with Kennedy’s car, trapping the 17-year-old model and beauty queen for two hours and suffering critical injuries.

The tourist herself had to undergo several surgeries due to serious leg and arm injuries. A 20-year-old male passenger on the same car she was driving had only minor injuries.

Besides reckless driving charges, the tourist was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death after the Cairns Forensic Crash Unit investigated the accident, reports Brisbanetimes.

After Kennedy’s death, her family released a statement, saying, “Remember Elyse’s inner beauty, the warmth she showed to all, her humbleness during her journey throughout her larger than life experiences and of course the generous sweet soul and friend she was to so many.”

Madeline Cowe, the current Miss World Australia, also said, “I'm in complete shock and lost for words. Elyse you were such an amazing person and I am so happy to have met you and spent the time we did together.”
