“Fast and Furious 8,” or “Fast 8,” may be more than a year away; however, cast member Michelle Rodriguez has shared a few updates regarding the movie’s progress, including schedules and possible filming locations. The star also shared her thoughts about continuing the franchise without Paul Walker.

In an interview with E! News during Harper's Bazaar Icon Party in New York, the actress revealed that the “Fast and Furious 8” cast will start filming next summer. She told E! that they’re already “trying to round up the troops" and that a possible filming location would be New York.

"We were looking at New York, and I think the studio was open to that so keep fingers crossed! It'll be my first movie at home since 'Girl Fight!'" Rodriguez added.

Given the sudden death of Paul Walker while filming for “Furious 7” was still ongoing, the eighth instalment is expected to be bittersweet, but Rodriguez shared it would be a good way for the team to cope with the loss. She explained that the “Fast and Furious” family needs “a good reason to move on” after the actor’s death and mentioned that since the movie has become a global franchise, she thinks it’s “important that we consider moving on and take it seriously."

The “Avatar” actress added, "But for us as a cast, I think we need a reason and it needs to have heart, so hopefully we'll find it, you know? And somebody who's passionate about directing it—I think that's the most important thing is finding a good director."

Unfortunately, Rodriguez did not reveal details "Fast 8" storyline details, although she told People that in the upcoming film, they will attempt to keep the movie "true to Paul's wishes." Rodriguez explained that Walker previously wanted to put an end to "exaggerated explosions and crazy plot lines." The actress said, "[Paul] wanted to bring it back down to the core, which is the racing. He was always complaining about the special effects and the blue screens."

Rodriguez also acknowledged that trying to stay true to Walker’s wishes may be challenging, given that “Fast and Furious” has “gotten bigger than ever,” but the team is hoping they'll be able to follow the actor's wishes.

“Fast and Furious 8” is slated to hit movie theaters in April 2017.
