The new season is set in 1979 and in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, and it is set against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan’s first campaign for President and the cultural transformation that was taking place at the time. Reagan is one of the characters on the show and is being played by Bruce Campbell.

“Fargo” Season 1 ensemble cast is not returning to star in the new edition of FX’s critically acclaimed black-comedy, crime drama anthology series. However, the character of Lou Solverson is returning as a main character, though Keith Carradine will not be reprising his role. To play Solverson's younger version, Patrick Wilson has been roped in.

Dunst’s character is a beautician, Peggy Blomquist, who has big-city dreams, while Plemons has been roped in to play Peggy’s supportive husband Ed Blomquist who is a butcher’s assistant. Smart will be seen playing Floyd Gerhardt, the matriarch of the Gerhardt crime family.

The filming of the ten episodes of “Fargo” Season 2 began in January at Calgary, Alberta, and the new season is expected to premiere sometime this fall. Speaking about the upcoming season, creator Noah Hawley said to Entertainment Weekly, “the scope of the storytelling this season is a lot bigger --thematically, on a character level, and story-wise. It has more of an epic feel to it.”
