“Fantastic Four” reboot actress Kate Mara has said that being a star would not have been possible if she was not motivated. The actress revealed that she was always shy. But she is a more confident person when “playing other people.”

Speaking to Flare magazine, Mara, who also starred in Netflix's "House of Cards," said that people who knew her when she was a little girl would find her appearance on big screen laughable, as she was shy to a fault. She said that acting is something that makes her come out of her shell, instead of clamming up.

"That's part of why I wanted to do it -- for whatever reason, I was shy in my own skin, and when I was playing other people, I felt more confident,” she said.

As the actress sees acting as a serious profession, she does not want her private life to be publicised, like other artists. According to Mara, too-much publicity narrows down the roles that one would like to play. "It's so simple to me, because as an actor your job is to convince people you are someone else, and it's harder to do that when people know a lot about who you are and what you do on a Saturday," she said. She clarified that this is not because she is shy or anything like that, adding she is really open when it comes to her “inner circle.”

In the same interview, she said that when it comes to her style, comfort is her top priority. She added that unless she has a meeting to attend, she is usually dressed in “sweatpants and Converse." On occasions when she needs to dress up, she tends to combine masculine and feminine styles.

Meanwhile, Mara recently went topless for Esquire Mexico magazine for its July issue. The new photos have been shot almost a year after she first graced the magazine’s cover, in July 2014.
