In a special event for “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them,” beloved author JK Rowling made an announcement that will extend this arm of the franchise for at least another four movies. For now, the story is scheduled to roll out in five films instead of the original three.

"We always knew that it was going to be more than one movie -- we knew that from the start -- so we set a trilogy as a sort of placeholder, because we knew there would be more than one movie,” she said. “But we’ve now -- I’ve now -- done the plotting properly so we’re pretty sure it’s going to be five movies."

The “Harry Potter” author then went on to Twitter to further explain. The series will definitely have just five movies in its roster by the time it closes in theatres and not "at least" five movies. These four other movies will not all be set in New York, but will include other well known cities around the world.

Rowling also confirmed that the second chapter in the series is almost finished.

As a whole, the series will give clarity on the Wizarding World before the events of “Harry Potter.” Rowling even confirmed that upcoming installments of “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” will touch on Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, with the latter only has a minor role in the “Harry Potter” books.

The story between Dumbledore and Grindelwald is pivotal in Wizarding history, as a duel between the two marked the end of the Global Wizarding War. So if Rowling does plan to discuss this story in detail, there is no doubt that fans of the franchise will be itching to hear it.
