The suspenseful series of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ may have official ended when the finale episode of season 6 aired two weeks ago, but E! Online rekindled the drama via a poll asking what fans think of a Damon-Bonnie love team. TVD fans have opted for the two to remain friends.

E! Online reveals the poll results on Tuesday where 84% of the respondents were against Bonnie and Damon’s relationship ever turning into anything more than platonic friendship. They were also expecting some heated discussion during E!’s Debate Club, a series debating the world's most important and life-altering issues (on TV), about whether or not TVD's resident BFFs Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) should get together now that Elena (Nina Dobrev) is gone, they were surprised to find that things were pretty much one-sided.

E! Online always thought there was a small but dedicated "Bamon" fanbase who wanted to see Bonnie and Damon take their friendship to the next level. Even MTV alluded to this in their “What May Happen In ‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 7”article released May 15. Although the next level they referred to is the dynamic friendship formed between the two, when previously they couldn’t stand the sight of each other.

Could it be that fans are not ready to see Damon move on romantically so soon after losing Elena? Caroline Dries, executive producer of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ thinks that viewers won’t be able to embrace the idea of Damon meeting someone else and falling in love. Dries told TV Line on May 14 how this isn’t something they were going to jump into right away. She adds that Damon needs to be by himself for a while and how his love story will be based back on Stefan.

Caroline Dries also told E! Online on May 14 how they’re not going to do a lot of ‘grieving’ aside from Alaric who is grieving the loss of his future family. "But Elena left on great terms with everyone and I think inspired them with her goodbyes. If anything, they're empowered by what she said and less grieving. They also feel freedom to have life after her. She granted them that."
