Norman Reedus revealed in a recent interview how he almost didn’t make it to “The Walking Dead” series.

In an interview with Details magazine, Reedus recounted that when he read the script of “The Walking Dead” series, the show had already been cast. The actor also revealed that his character, Daryl Dixon, was never in the script.

“I was like, just get me in the room. I’ll go in and do a guest spot.” Reedus told Details. He relayed how he was then asked to read a few lines from Merle’s character. “The Walking Dead” creator Frank Darabont liked him so much that it paved the way for the creation a little brother for Merle’s character, Daryl Dixon.

Soon enough, Darabont’s decision to have a spot for Reedus on “The Walking Dead” created one of the most celebrated co-lead on the show.

Apart from having showcased his acting skills on the show, Reedus was also given the chance to get creative with his character, according to Celebuzz. “The Walking Dead” comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman revealed, “For the first season, we really didn’t know what we were doing with the character, so we’d see what Norman would do, how he’d read a line, how he’d react to something. And that helped inform where we went with Daryl.”

Five years later, people are into Reedus’ character. What makes his character likable to the audience of the series is that Daryl doesn’t judge people because of what they do. Daryl is considered as one of the most compassionate characters in the show, despite the masculine façade he has in the earlier seasons of the series.

Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” offers another new challenge for Reedus’ character as well as the other cast in the show. The first episode of season 6 will start following the events of the season 5 finale where Morgan finally unites with Rick in an unlikely predicament. Tension will steadily build up in the upcoming new episodes of “The Walking Dead,” New York Times reported, in which alliances will shift and arguments will start to brew inside the Alexandria Safe Zone.

Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” premieres this Sunday, Oct. 11 on AMC.
