The 10-year old social networking site is growing more slowly in the past six months compared to other major social networks. According to Global Web Index, the report was based on the measure of increase in members or active users.

Tumblr and Pinterest are now being considered as the hottest names on social media after being cited as the fastest growing platforms by far. Tumblr is increasing its active users by 120 percent while Pinterest garnering a 111 percent increase. Tumblr's membership base has increased by 45 percent and Pinterest's by 57 percent. This is in contrast to Facebook's result which only added 6 percent to its member base and a very low 2 percent to its line of active users. Instagram which happens to be Facebook's photo-sharing network fell in third place based on the latest result of the fastest growing network.

The Global Web Index report was based on interviews made with 40,000 people from 32 countries. The result emphasises that Facebook remains to be the social media leader. It excludes China, of course, where in Facebook is officially banned. According to the interview, 4 out 5 internet users said that they have a Facebook account and it includes 93 percent of people in Latin America.

In addition, 1 out of 2 says that he actively uses the social media giant at least once a month, which is twice as many as compared to Twitter, YouTube or Google+, which are all competing for second place. Furthermore, 54 percent of Facebook's active users log-in multiple times in a day which is 20 percent more than Twitter, PCMag reports.

Based on the interviews, the problem of Facebook is that some of its users tend to lose interest especially in the United States and in the United Kingdom and among younger social networking users. The younger base ranges between ages 16 to 34 and may be creating their accounts in other social media sites, but they will not permanently leave Facebook and will still continue to visit and use the networking site.
