Social media is fast becoming a huge presence in the lives of more Aussies, with Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) leading the pack of networks in Australia.

According to Roy Morgan Research, 75% of Australians, aged 14 and over, are now using "some form of social media".

Facebook is the most visited social media in Australia. In an "average four weeks", 67% or 7 out of 10 Aussies used Mark Zuckerberg's social network. It is currently visited by 12.5 millions Aussies in an average month.

It's not only Facebook that is growing in Australia. Other social networks are also catching up.

“Even though 67% of Australians are on Facebook in an average four weeks, it’s important to remember that social media is much more than just Facebook," said Andrew Braun, Mobile, Internet & Technology Industry Director at Roy Morgan Research.

"Australians are using a variety of other social media platforms like YouTube (56%), Google+ (16%) and LinkedIn (12%)."

Google+ received 2.9 million visitors or 16% of online Australians. The social network, from tech giant Google, posted an impressive increase of 47% in the last nine months.

According to the same report, Twitter is pretty much an "early adopter" phenomenon in Australia. It only received 11%. But on the upside, the micro-blogging site had grown two fold in the last two years.
