Even if Facebook bans the registration of users who are under 18, people still get to see numerous profiles of babies, kids, teens and even pets having their own Facebook profile page. They lie about their age just to become a part of the most popular social networking site in the globe.

With this, Facebook is trying to explore the idea of opening up their site for everyone, regardless of age. This would most likely happen for minors with the given appropriate parental supervision. Besides, majority of those who come up with their fake profiles are often assisted by their own parents or guardians.

According to a recent worldwide survey, the number of users aged 13 years old and below in Facebook reach about 7.5 million. This may be a good chance for Facebook executives to consider the possibility of offering it to minors, but the dilemma that comes with the decision making keeps them staying within talks still with stakeholders and the policymakers.

What's most important, whether or not this Facebook plan pushes through, is that parents stay consistent and responsible enough to monitor the online activities of their kids. Stephen Balkan, one of the members of the Facebook Safety Advisory Board said that it has nothing to do with the Facebook IPO.

As for Balkan, it would be perfect if Facebook will be able to do things appropriately for this new plan of opening up to minors. They can set the kids' profiles to 'Friends only' so as to protect them from strangers and other features which will allow their parents to still have supervision over their kids.
