Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone's reunion in "The Expendables 4" has yet to be confirmed. However, Gibson is said to be directing “3 Idiots” star Aamir Khan, 50, in film adaptation of the epic narrative “Mahabharata.” It will be Gibson's first project with the Bollywood actor.

Khan is currently filming “Dangal” and is said to start filming “ Mahabharata” afterwards. He has wanted to make the film adaptation of the epic narrative for a long time, and he has been in talks with Gibson for the project.

It is expected that “Mahabharata” will be one of the biggest motion pictures made in India. A big Hollywood studio will back the movie, which will start filming in early 2017, a source told Catch News.

According to the source, the “Mahabharata” script is already locked and the pre-production and set designing for the movie have already been started. Gibson is planning to add more actors from India in movie, the sources added.

Backed by a Hollywood studio, most of the “Mahabharata” scenes will be filmed at a studio in the United States. The American company VFX is set to on the visual effects of the movie to be directed by Gibson.

“Mahabharata” will serve as Gibson’s second epic war saga as a director. In 1995, he directed “Braveheart,” which was written by Randall Wallace who earned an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay.

It is yet to be confirmed whether Gibson will only direct “Mahabharata” or he will also co-star with Khan in the film. In “Braveheart,” the Oscar-winning director-actor played the lead role William Wallace.

In 1996, “Braveheart” won four Academy Awards, which are Best Makeup, Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Picture and Best Director. Among the cast members were Sophie Marceau, Patrick McGoohan, Sean Lawlor and Sandy Nelson.

While waiting for his "The Expendables 4" project with Stallone, Gibson is also set to direct the 2016 drama film “Hacksaw Ridge,” which recently casted Australian actor Hugo Weaving to play the father of “The Amazing Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield, The Wrap reported.
