Scottish actor, Ewan McGregor, has a new movie project under his belt after signing on to star in the upcoming thriller film "Son of A Gun."

The crime thriller film is about the story of a multifaceted relationship between Ewan McGregor's public enemy character and his young protégé. "Son of A Gun" will bring Ewan McGregor to Australia who is scheduled to start filming early next year.

TheCelebrityCafe.com reports the film "Son of A Gun" will be Australian film director Julius Avery's directorial debut. Also, this film can prove once again Julius Avery's capability and talent as a film director and screen writer. His work on the film "Jerrycan" back in 2008 gave him the Jury Prize at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Avery was also honored with the Australian Film Institute's Best Short Film Award.

Meanwhile, the talented 41-year-old actor has already starred in the critically-acclaimed films such as "Trainspotting" and "Moulin Rouge." Ewan McGregor's latest film, "The Impossible," will be released in movie theaters later this year.

Even though McGregor will head to Australia to start working on "Son of A Gun," the actor still has on-going movie projects that he needs to work on such as the film adaptation of Tracy Lett's "August: Osage County" which also stars Academy Award-winning actresses Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep.

"The film will combine tension and intensity of Animal Kingdom with the epic sweep of Heat," Altitude Film Sales managing director Mike Runagall assured.

The British production company, Altitude Film Entertainment, will reportedly sell the movie project internationally. Meanwhile, Hopscotch/eOne has already secured the distribution rights on Australia and New Zealand.

The "Son of A Gun" filming location will take place in Perth and Kalgoorlie, Australia.
