Microsoft unveiled “Surface Book”, its first ever laptop, at the recent Windows 10 Devices event. The new device is a convertible version of the Surface and supports both stylus and touch input.

The fastest 13-inch laptop ever

With the launch of the Surface Book, Microsoft under the leadership of Satya Nadella clearly wants to take on Apple in the domain of laptop computers. The Surface Book has a 13.5-inch screen with a detachable keyboard.

The ultra-thin first ever full sized laptop weighs just 3.34 pounds. Microsoft claims it’s the fastest 13-inch laptop and is twice as fast as the MacBook Pro. The Surface Book will be shipped with the 6 th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor; will have 16 GB of memory and up to 1 TB of storage.

Innovation and design

The display screen can be easily detached from the keyboard to become a tablet that works with the Surface Pen. The immensely innovative, stunning laptop can be folded from the hinge to convert it from laptop to clipboard mode and further into creative canvas.

The sleek keyboard can be detached by just a push of a button. The Surface Book uses the Muscle Wire to hold its screen and it works with the Surface Pro 4 dock.

Unique features

The 13.5-inch display comes with a 3,000 x 2,000 (3:2 aspect ratio) that brings together six million pixels for 267 pixels per inch. It incorporates “Pixel Sense,” a true-to-life screen technology that enables the Surface Pen to combine 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity. The laptop comes packed with a precision glass trackpad that provides five points of touch, reports The Guardian.

Surface Book is ideal for intensively creative photo and video editing using popular software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. It has the potential to be the best professional grade photo and video editing laptop in the market.

Users can access Cortana and OneNote in just one click on the Surface Book. Just click and hold the Surface Pen to activate the personal digital assistant. Furthermore, the Palm Block technology helps users rest their hand on the screen to write effortlessly, just as they would on a piece of paper.

The Surface family is a series of tablets and accessories that includes Surface RT, the Surface Pro, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 and finally the Surface Pro 3 introduced in 2014. Microsoft Surface leader Panos Panay credited the launch of the innovative Surface Book to Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella. Staring Oct. 26, the Surface Book will be available at $1,499 (AU$2,088).
