Esther is a great cook. She cleans, irons clothes and does all her household activities single-handedly in her own house independently, at Forest Hill, Melbourne. She is also not married, but is a happy spinster who looks after a 44-year-old nephew. He says that she was never ill.

So what, you may ask. What is special about her? Or different about what she does? Well, nothing much. She is just 108 years old. Esther Penn, one of the oldest Australian woman, is able to manage everything very well, Jason says to Yahoo news. For the past 100 years, she has been cooking for him, and even cleans up after him. "I'm probably the only person in the world that has his underpants ironed by a 108-year-old," Jason jokes. But having always been a healthy and spry spinster, she does not want to bank on a nursing home even today.

She was once a dressmaker, but has retired already. She does not smoke, drink or eat junk food. Esther feels that her secret is eating healthy food when she was a girl. Being the eldest of three children, she remained unmarried, though. "I never found anyone I liked and I was too busy looking," she jokes, to 7News.

She is a walking knowledge bank, of course. When she thinks back, she remembers the first coming of the motor car. Reliving the two World Wars and her efforts to work for the wars in a factory fill her with interesting memories. "I was filling little shells for aircraft," she says.

Her secret? There doesn't seem to be anything specific, though she offers some ideas. She claims that a cup of tea and lots of laughter will keep you healthy. But it really isn't the core reason for her longevity, of course. It is the secret of why she is always so cheerful and happy with life, as it is! The response and birthday wishes from the public have been overwhelming. Check out the comments on Facebook.

In January this year, May Rush also celebrated her 108th birthday, reports Herald Sun. May has survived five generations--through two sons, two grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Esther, though, is a single woman who has surrounded herself with happiness in spite of being unmarried and childless.
