A class action lawsuit, filed in mid-January by Rachel Cronin, against EOS over its lip balm, has been settled. The lip protector, endorsed by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Hillary Duff and Britney Spears, was blamed by buyers of the cosmetic for allegedly causing injuries.

Among the injuries cited in the lawsuit were severe rashes, blistering, loss of pigmentation, cracking and lip bleeding. The injuries on Cronin lasted for 10 days, which led her to sue EOS.

In a statement, EOS said it has settled the lawsuit filed by Cronin through her lawyer, Mark Geragos. The company agreed to add more information to its lip balm on the packaging to allow consumers to make informed choices.

EOS stresses, “Our lip balms are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, made with the highest quality ingredients, meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set by our industry and are validated by rigorous safety testing conducted by independent labs. We love our customers and their enjoyment of our products is our top priority,” Consumerist quotes EOS corporate adviser Teneo Strategy.

Geragos adds, “This is a testament to EOS being responsive to the concerns of their consumers. EOS has demonstrated through data that their lip balms are hypoallergenic, and has provided a mechanism for individual instances to be resolved. EOS makes great products and the company is doing the right thing.”

According to a blog in Glamour, in the past few years, reviews by Amazon of the EOS lip balm mentioned dryness, burning rashes, peeling and other contact dermatitis-type of reactions. However, despite these complaints, the product still maintained 4.5- to 5-star ratings from users.
