The eighth episode of “Empire” on its second season has Lucious obsessively mentor his protégé Freda at the expense of his sons. The Swiftstream affair is all set, but nothing in the personal lives of the characters are in place.

Here’s what happened in the latest episode of ‘Empire’:

1. Boo Boo Kitty’s bombshell will rock the Lyon’s den. This week, the biggest revelation goes to Boo Boo Kitty (Grace Gealey) who is not too thrilled to be carrying for Hakeem’s (Bryshere Gray) child. That’s right, Anika is pregnant. She decides to go to Hakeem’s crib and tell him all about the baby but Hakeem too, has to tell her something. Hakeem says that he’s in love, not with Anika, but with Laura (Jamila Velazquez). The revelation stuns Anika whose jealousy got the best of her so she snatched Laura by disguising herself as a lady driver.

2. Hakeem and Freda will face off in a rap battle. The youngest Lyon’s professional life is not in any way less chaotic than his personal life. Hakeem decides to go on a battle with Freda (Bre-Z) much to the disdain of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). Both mother and son argue about it with Laz (Adam Rodriguez) inturrupting the conversation. Hakeem shoots him down and they have a heated argument which resulted to Laz getting slapped by Cookie because he shoved Hakeem.

3. Jamal strikes a deal with Pepsi and attempts to reunite Cookie and Lucious. One Lyon has momentum. Last week, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) celebrated with Cookie for being invited to pay at The Living Room sessions and this week, his stock is on the rise for being booked to create Pepsi’s next commercial tie-in song. Jamal and Cookie secretly work on the track until Hakeem busts in Cookie video chatting with Jamal about the song. Hakeem threatens to tell Lucious (Terrence Howard) about what’s going on but Cookie assures him that she loves all of her sons equally. It turns out, Hakeem need not to tell Lucious because Jamal wants to combine Lucious’ and Cookie’s idea as he lets Lucious stroll in while he and Cookie work on the track.

Both Cookie and Lucious know that they have a hit in their hands and they play tug-of-war on who gets to release Jamal’s next album. They strike a bet over the Hakeem vs Freda affair. If Hakeem wins the rap battle, Jamal’s next album will be released through Lyon Dynasty. If Freda wins, Lucious gets to release Hakeem’s next album.

Elsewhere, Cookie’s sister played by Vivica A. Fox makes a debut carrying a juicier story line for the rest of the season.
