The premiere episode of “Empire” Season 2 was packed with a lot of twisted twists, including a failed hostile takeover attempt, Jamal’s emergence as the prodigal son and death of Frank Gathers (Chris Rock). This week’s episode, titled “Without a Country,” will see a new game of one-upmanship unfolding, with Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) stepping out of prison, and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) proving to be as ruthless as his father.

Jamal continues to walk on his father’s footsteps in Episode 2 of “Empire” Season 2. His focus has shifted from singing to managing the business, and after throwing his brothers and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) out of the house, he is now going to prove that he is as ruthless as his father when it comes to making business moves, according to synopsis of “Within a Country.”

However, it looks like Jamal's power play may come to an abrupt end, as the trailer of “Within a Country” indicates that the real king of Empire, Lucious, is set to come out blazing. And before standing under the clear sky, he is going to record an “epic track” from inside jail.

The Episode 2 synopsis says that he is going to hire a new lawyer, and it looks like this lawyer is going to ensure his release from prison. The trailer suggests that Lucious is not going to waste much time in little talks, as he is seen making bold statements, including “We’re going to make Empire bigger than it’s ever been” and “Today is the beginning of a new era for Empire.”

Meanwhile, after the failed hostile takeover attempt, Cookie is set to start her own small record label, but according to synopsis of the episode, her and her cohorts’ “opposing visions make for a bumpy start to the venture.”

And speaking about Hakeem, he is going to woo a “hot Latina singer for the girl group he wants to form.”

Episode 2 of “Empire” Season2, “ Without a Country,” airs on Sep. 30 in the U.S.
