Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn has beaten “Game of Thrones” stalwarts Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage as Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the latest Emmy Awards.

The 47-year-old actor from Melbourne was awarded during the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards for his role as Danny Rayburn in the Netflix TV series “Bloodline.”

Mendelson failed to attend the awards night held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California, due to the ongoing filming of his upcoming movie “Ready Player One” in England.

Mendelsohn has defeated “Game of Thrones” stars Harrington and Dinklage, “Better Call Saul” actor Jonathan Banks, “House of Cards” star Michael Kelly and “Ray Donovan” actor Jon Voight in the category.

For the same role in “Bloodline,” Mendelsohn also earned nominations to the Golden Globe Awards, Satellite Award and Critics’ Choice Television Award.

Mendelsohn’s recognition came after Netflix announced that “Bloodline” will be airing its third and last season next year. The decision was due to the end of Florida’s tax breaks to filmmakers.

At home, Mendelsohn has garnered numerous nomination to the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards, and Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association Awards.

Mendelsohn is best know in Hollywood for his role in the 2010 movie Animal Kingdom and 2012 film “The Dark Knight Rises.” He also stars as Director Orson Krennic in the upcoming 2016 film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which is coming soon to theatres on Dec. 15.

Aside from filming “Ready Player One,” Mendelsohn also stars in the 2017 film “Darkest Hour” and 2018 movie “Larrikins.”
