NBC's "The Voice" is no doubt a big threat to all reality show as it competes against perennial favorite TV show, the "Amazing Race." But this year is definitely "The Voice" year as it takes home The Best Reality-Competition Program Award.

The reality show's winning is one of the biggest upsets of the night beating "Amazing race" who won nine times out of the last ten years this category has been created. Being a newcomer/nominee for this category, "The Voice" got their first nomination last year but went home empty handed after four nominations.

The Voice Season 5

"The Voice" beats long-running reality shows "So You Think You Can Dance", "Top Chef", "Dancing With The Stars" and "Project Runway." Supermodel and host Heidi Klum and fashion consultant Tim Gunn won the award for outstanding host for reality program category.

The show's ratings really took off this year thanks to the switching of the judges and not to mention the on-going bromance of Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The show's latest season premiered last March 25, 2013 and it gained 13.64 million viewer audience, scoring 4.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

Mark Burnett's "The Voice" only proves that 2013 Emmy Awards is full of rookie winners. When asked about his reaction for the awards, he jokingly says, "Considering everyone comes up to me weekly and says 'I love your show The Amazing Race,' it feels pretty good to beat the show that I don't produce and people think I do produce".

Reporters backstage also asked the producer and creator of the show about "The Voice" rivalry with "American Idol".

"This is a very different show," Burnett said. "This is a kind show. There's no humiliation in The Voice. And people said these types of shows would never work without humiliation, but not true. America loves kindness and freshness and brilliant music. And so we never felt the comparison ourselves. We're back tomorrow night. And we want to be No. 1 again. And this is great."

It is indeed a good year for the show for winning the main category. The show's Season 5 will premiere the day after they won the award (Mon., Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC).
