Hollywood actress and "It" girl Emma Stone walked the red carpet of the 84th Academy Awards in a Giambattista Valli couture gown that somehow resembled the Balenciaga creation that Nicole Kidman wore in Oscars 2007.

The statement bow at the neck gives a "we-have-seen-this-before" impression. The two dresses are by no means identical - the Australian actress's gown was Balenciaga, and too different a cut and shade for the Valli creation to be branded a copy.

Moreover, the dress also resembles the Gucci gown that Jennifer Lopez wore in last year's Met Gala. However, the singer's necktie (bow) was overshadowed by the floral embellishment on her shoulders.

Following the ceremony, Emma did a 180 and showed up to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a striking black Chanel number.

Various media organizations have different opinions on Emma Stone's dress. While the Daily Beast's Robin Givhan deemed Miss Stone 'regal and glamorous', the New York Daily News placed her on its worst-dressed list. Huffington Post commented that Emma Stone's dress added a few years to her original age.

However, Emma Stone must be commended for her boldness and not playing too safe for her outfit. She emerged as one of the faces that the people must watch out for in the red carpet in the future.

Emma Stone is not nominated for any acting awards. However, she attended the event to show her support for the film she was in "The Help," which was nominated for Best Picture. Nicole Kidman, on the other hand, is a no-show in the Oscars this year.
