Detroit rapper Marshall Mathers, professionally known as Eminem, has donated funds to the family of the late Brooklyn-based rapper Sean Price, who was half of the hip hop duo Heltah Skeltah. Price reportedly died in his sleep on Aug. 8 in Brooklyn, New York, where he was also born.

Through his label Shady Records, Eminem donated US $10,000 (AU$13,682) to help the family of Price. With Eminem’s donation, the Duck Down Music-managed CrowdRise crowdsourcing fundraiser reached a total of US$86,318 (AU$118,106), NME reported.

In a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly shortly after Price’s death, the late rapper’s label Duck Down Music said that he died in his sleep, although the cause of death is currently unknown. Price, who was 43 at the time of his death, was survived by his wife and three children.

In the statement, Duck Down Music also said that further details will be released when more information is available. The label added, “Sean’s family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news.”

As the Heltah Skeltah partner of Jahmal Bush, also known as Rock, Price performed under the name Ruckus. Both of them were members of the New York music group Boot Camp Clik along with Kenyatta Blake, Jack McNair, Barret Powell, Dashawn Jamal Yates, Tekomin Williams and Darrell Yates.

Heltah Skeltah is set to release an album this year. The hip hop duo has released three albums, which include the 1996 album “Nocturnal,” the 1998 album “Magnum Force” and the 2008 album “D.I.R.T.”

As a solo artist, Price has released three studio albums. His first studio album “Monkey Barz” was released on June 13, 2005 followed by his second studio album “Jesus Price Supastar,” which was released on Jan. 20, 2007, and his third album “Mic Tyson,” which was released on Oct. 30, 2012.
