Just a day after calling a boycott of all the clothes and products of Dolca and Gabbana, Elton John was photographed carrying a shopping bag of the same brand to a recording studio in Los Angeles, according to People. Though initially it was claimed that the picture must have been digitally-altered, a spokesman for Elton later confirmed to the Express that the bag was used to carry the singer’s lunch. “Elton was carrying a white Dolce & Gabbana bag and it had his lunch in. We thought they had been photo-shopped but that's not correct,” the singer's rep had told earlier.

Dolce and Gabbana have been in the midst of a controversy surrounding their comment in Italian magazine Panorama about children conceived through in vitro fertilization, terming such babies “synthetic”. Their comment has drawn the backlash of celebrities worldwide with singer Elton John leading the campaign.

Their comments have sparked a spat on social media with John asking people all over to boycott the brand. Many celebrities joined the bandwagon and raged a war against the designer duo. They include singer Ricky Martin, Courtney Love, “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy, actor Dan Bucatinsky, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, Andy Cohen, Sharon Stone and Al Roker.

The designers later released a statement saying that their remarks were merely “personal views” and that they “did not judge other people’s decisions”. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the faces behind luxury fashion brand Dolce and Gabbana are themselves gay and have been a couple till 2005. They dated for 23 years.

Meanwhile, the designer duo on Mar.18 in an exclusive interview with CNN told that whatever they had told in Panorama were their own point of view and they did not judge people on IVF. They added that in a democratic society everyone is free to have their own opinions and should even respect others opinions. Gabbana told that they were not telling people how to lead their lives, as they themselves are gay, love gay couples and are also for gay adoption as well. But, he admitted that in their Panorama interview, they could have used better language to express themselves. Dolce, meanwhile, agreed on one thing that they love the music of Elton John and would never boycott the artist, though the duo disagree over the latter’s call for a boycott of their products.
