It is now recognized worldwide that Ellen DeGeneres lives an openly gay life with Australian actress Portia De Rossi. While in Australia, the 55-year-old TV host/comedian opened up about what happened after admitting her gay sexuality during an interview with Tracy Grimshaw at "A Current Affair."

Ellen DeGeneres decided to publicly admit being gay on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" back in 1997. In the interview with Tracy Grimshaw, Ellen revealed the anger and humiliation that she had to endure after her revelation.

The famous TV host further revealed that she was jobless for three years to the point that she already became broke. "I was furious at the time because I just felt like it was my fault. I was so mad that I lost my show and not just my show but for three years I didn't have any offers," DeGeneres stated.

Ellen bravely shared to the audience her painful personal experience in life. "I mean literally, the phone did not ring for three years and I had no money. All of a sudden just because of one gay revelation, I was the joke. I was the punch line of every late night talk show, I was made fun of in a magazine and it felt horrible at the time," DeGeneres revealed.

That awful experience definitely made Ellen DeGeneres a stronger and better person. Ellen admitted that she was even thankful it happened to her because the experience let her find out who she really is and live a life without success.

"Now I look back on it and I am thankful because it gave me a chance to examine myself and say who are you without fame, who are you without success and who are you without money?"

Eventually, Ellen DeGeneres managed to bounce back from the trials in her life. She is currently in the 10th season of her popular TV show "Ellen" which is associated to 23 countries and she is happily married to Portia De Rossi.

Ellen is aware that she cannot really please everybody. "I think there are a lot of people who don't approve of who I am and who don't understand and I can't really do anything about that," DeGeneres stated at the "A Current Affair" interview with Tracy Grimshaw.

Millions of fans all over the world are supportive on Ellen's positive approach in life. The audience cheered on as Ellen DeGeneres opened up about how her past experiences in life hurt her then molded her to a new person with a new attitude towards life.

"I wish I could make people see there is nothing wrong with being who you are. I can just be myself. I am a good person, I'm a kind person. I live my life in a kind way. I go to sleep at night and know I've done the best I can. That's all I can do," DeGeneres stated.
