The 21-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Debicki, has shared how she ended up working with the A-list stars in the adaptation of the classic novel, "The Great Gatsby".

Baz Luhrmann’s latest “discovery” has just celebrated her birthday a couple of weeks ago and got her best birthday gift when she was cast at the prized role of Jordan Baker in “Great Gatsby”. Debicki plays the glamorous golf player in the classic adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel.

And as the film sets out in its film production Down Under this week, the newcomer is getting more attention from media.
For Elizabeth working with Hollywood’s big stars in a $150-million is ‘surreal’ when she talked about her audition for the role.

The newbie actress revealed that she was asked to fly to Los Angeles after Luhrmann saw a footage of her. The audition was to die for as she did opposite Toby Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio who played the title role.

Fresh from the drama school, Debicki was cast as Maguire’s love interest, Nick Carraway.

“Well it was quite overwhelming at first. Even after I got the role and was flying back, I had to remind myself it had actually happened. It was surreal,'' Debicki was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I studied Gatsby in high school and I was in love with the movie … I guess I do have an affinity with Jordan Baker …maybe that's what Baz saw in me.”

Luhrmann could not be more thrilled with his latest “discovery”.

“It was a surprising result, but Elizabeth’s grasp of the material and her chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire, in addition to her striking, athletic appearance, had us in a place where we were fully confident and ready to take the leap of giving the role of Jordan Baker to what, I guess, people would term ‘a discovery,’ ” Luhrmann said. “We are thrilled.

Debicki was born in Paris and moved to Australia only at the age of 5, noted a profile posted on the official website of The University of Melbourne.

She attended the drama studies at the Victorian College of the Arts where she was pretty busy with various projects including “The Black Sequin Dress”, “Have I None”; “Much Ado About Nothing”; “Ghetto” and “The Hollow”. She was also recipient of Australia's Prime Minister VCE Award for Drama.

Elizabeth Debicki is now touted as Australia’s new Nicole Kidman and she’s also being compared to Cate Blanchett.
