There is no doubt that in our daily routine we are consuming a lot of sugar which has lead to varied health problems from obesity to high blood pressure. But in wake to cut sugar many of us are avoiding fruits. So are fruits healthy or are making us obese? Lets find out:

As per the nutrition expert, Dr David Ludwig the director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children's Hospital, sugar in fruits is healthy and does not leave a negative impact on your health. On the contrary in the recent Journal of the American Medical Association he cited that eating fruits decreases your body weight and the risk of obesity.

He told nytimes.com that whole fruits are the storehouse of antioxidants and their skin is made up of fibers which keep us fuller for a longer time.

"Fruits would keep you away from overeating as they take time to break down in the intestine whereas packaged food tends to break down slowly in the intestine creating frequent hunger pangs and lowering the risk of type 2 diabties".

Dr. Robert Lustig, a professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco also told nytimes.com that the main reason to eat fruits is because of their high fiber level and their ability to let healthy bacteria thrive in the intestine.

Dr. David L. Katz, director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center further told nytimes.com that to get more health benefits from fruits you should add variety to your fruits. He advised "Eating the rainbow, since different colors signal different types of antioxidants and nutrients".

The three doctors asked people not to consume juice as a substitute of fruits because juice leads to more calories. As per what Dr Katz told nytime.com, in your diet fresh fruit should come first, followed closely by dried fruit, with sweetened dried fruit a distant third, and juice in fourth place.
