The tragic attacks in Paris on Nov. 13 left not only the people of the city reeling from the deaths of many civilians but also impaled the hearts of many across nations.

Eagles of Death Metal is left devastated after the killings that happened at their Bataclan concert, which left many people dead, including their merchandise manager Nick Alexander, and others injured. Speaking for the first time about the tragedy, the band recalled the carnage that happened and how they had fled for their lives during the shooting.

In a video interview with Vice News, the band members recounted the tragic moment that happened at the onset of the shooting up until they managed to hide from the attackers. Guitarist Eden Galindo recalled hearing the first sound of gunshots and thought it was the “PA cracking up.” However, he quickly realised what was happening so he and lead vocalist Jesse Hughes ran to the corner of the stage for cover.

Galindo remembered how they managed to get off the stage. One crew member saw the gunmen reloading his weapon and took this as an opportunity to signal them to leave. He and Hughes left the room and went upstairs in search for Hughes’ girlfriend Tuesday.

The Eagles of Death Metal frontman got emotional when he recalled the tragedy. Hughes remembered coming face-to-face with one of the gunmen when he opened a door to the hallway.

“He turned on me, brought his gun down and the barrel hit the door frame,” he told Vice News.

Hughes, Galindo, and the rest of the fans ran back downstairs and through an exit where they found Tuesday. Galindo said there were kids outside the Bataclan music hall who helped them find a safe place to go.

Meanwhile, bass player Matt McJunkins told Vice News how he hid with other people inside a dressing room and the fans barricaded the door. One stood holding a champagne bottle as a weapon. He also recalled hearing a big explosion and they all thought the whole place was going to be blown up.

McJunkins also shared his fear that the gunmen would discover where they were hiding. One woman was bleeding from a gunshot wound on her leg and the roof was reportedly leaking water to the floor.

“It started trickling down the stairs and we were worried that might alert someone that there were people in this room,” he said.

Sound engineer Shawn London recalled looking straight to the eyes of a gunman, who shot at him but failed. Instead the shots landed at his console. London said the shooter must have thought that he was already dead because he lay down on the floor with the rest of the other injured and dead people around him.

Drummer Julian Dorio told Vice News he immediately “bailed off” his stool when he heard the gunshots. He also remembered seeing two of the gunmen just “relentlessly shooting into the audience.” Dorio managed to escape the attack by crawling to his chin to the side of the stage and running with Galindo and Hughes to safety.

Despite the tragedy and fear caused by the tragic Paris attacks, the Eagles of Death Metal vow to return to Bataclan to finish their gig. They all expressed their interest to go back and meet their fans.

The outpouring of love and support for the band has also been endless. Fans took to their Facebook page to share their wish for the band to continue playing for their fans. Some also shared their recollection of the tragedy.
