Fans of the Ultimate Fighting Championship organisation, or UFC, are in for a treat. After a few months soft launch, EA has officially released their free-to-play brawler “EA Sports UFC Mobile.” The game was developed by EA Canada, the same studio that brought the interactive UFC experience to console gamers, with the developers reportedly working in partnership with the console team.

Polygon states that “EA Sports UFC Mobile” lets players choose from a roster of 70 playable characters, as they level up and learn a variety of new moves with the coins earned through the game. This enables players to also unlock tougher opponents, along with the aforementioned special moves mentioned.

This title won’t be the first time EA has ported a fighting game to mobile devices. The company has made mobile versions of their other popular console games, like boxing game “Fight Night Champion” and the company’s first attempt at a mixed martial arts game in “EA Sports MMA.”

Gameplay should be very familiar to fans of mobile fighting games from NetherRealms like “Injustice: Gods Among Us” and “WWE Immortals,” as the controls are reportedly similar to those games. Players can nail some punches and kicks through tapping and swiping, while putting two fingers in the screen lets the player’s chosen fighter block attacks.

Where “EA Sports UFC” starts to deviate from the “Injustice” formula is when the fight starts to go down to the mat. Players will be able to put their opponents in some sick submission moves, which can be won through button mashing as a way to fill the tap out meter. Players can also choose to continue striking their opponent once they are down on the mat.

Visually, the game can be considered fairly impressive. An article from Touch Arcade praised the graphics of the mobile fighting game, complimenting the game’s realistic character models that are based on actual UFC fighters and the rather fluid fighting animations.

“EA Sports UFC” is available now on iOS and Android mobile devices. The console version of the game is currently free for those who subscribed to EA Access, which gives users a variety of free games from the popular gaming company.
