Derek Hough took to Instagram to pay tribute to Steve Irwin, the late father of his “Dancing with the Stars” Season 21 partner Bindi Irwin. The former “The Crocodile Hunter” star was born on Feb. 22 in Essendon, Victoria, and died of stingray injury to his heart on Sept. 4, 2006 in Batt Reef, Queensland.

“It's officially #steveirwinday in Australia,” Hough captioned an old photo of Steve and Bindi, which he posted on Instagram on Nov. 15, Sunday, which was officially declared as Steve Irwin Day. “He will always be remembered. #legend #wildlifewarrior @bindisueirwin #teamcrikey4life.”

To raise awareness of the Steve Irwin Day, Australia Zoo director Wes Mannion, senior crocodile team member Stuart Gudgeon, rescue unit head Toby Millyard and curator Kelsey Engle, gathered to feed Acco, the biggest saltwater crocodile of Australia Zoo. The four original members of Steve’s “Crocodile Hunter” worked very closely with the late wildlife expert on his several crocodile projects , according to Sunshine Coast Daily.

Steve married Terri Irwin in 1992. Terri gave birth to their daughter Bindi in 1998 and to their son Robert Clarence Irwin in 2003.

Bindi is currently based in Los Angeles as she competes in “DWTS” Season 21 with Hough as her partner. The two are still in the running to become the winner of the dancing competition show airing on ABC.

On the 10th week of “DWTS” Season 21, Bindi and Hough partnered with Mark Ballas in their salsa and jazz dances. They danced to “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” by Sia and “Resolve” by Nathan Lanier.

Ballas, Bindi and Hough garnered a total score of 57 in their salsa and jazz dances. They tied with Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay with Emma Slater, Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson with Karina Smirnoff and Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess with Peta Murgatroyd.
