Johan Friso, 44, died after 18 months of an accident in 2012. He never really recovered from the injuries he got from the accident.

Popularly called Friso, the Prince met an accident February 17 last year when he went to ski at Lech, Austria. He remained buried in the snow until rescuers were able to pull him out of it. He was unconscious even after 20 minutes. His brain was severely injured from the accident. For several months, he stayed in a coma.

Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of The Netherlands, marked his death as shocking even though it was not an expected incident. Friso's death was expected sooner or later as he never gained anything more than a minimal level of consciousness. Rutte believed that Friso was in his prime until he met with the accident.

The grieving family of Friso included his daughters, Zaria and Luana, along with his significant other, Princess Mabel.

Friso was called "Prince Brilliant" chiefly because of his educational achievements. He had his education from Erasmus University and Technical University of Delft. He had degrees in Economics and Engineering. Later on, he did an MBA from INSEAD which is one of the most prestigious business schools in France.

He showed his brilliance once again when he pulled himself out of the claim to the Dutch throne for marrying his sweetheart Mabel. The wedding was not sanctioned by the government, as Friso allegedly did not follow the rule of asking for permission for his marriage from the government.

Mabel, who got engaged with Friso in 2003, was viewed as the ideal choice for her daughter-in-law by the queen. The engagement happened when she was still working at George Soros' Open Society Institute. On the other hand, it was a mutual decision between Mabel and Friso not to reveal the true colour of their relation in the beginning. Mabel became a part of the royal family in 2004 after she got married to Friso April 24.
