Don't we all just lust for long, luscious lashes? Most of us would go to various ends just to get that sexy, smoldering look or those vulnerable, doe-eyed lashes. Lucky for us we can easily have those luscious lushes with the stroke of a wand-a mascara wand, that is.

Mascara is a key makeup component in making your eyes stand out and draw attention to your eyes. No matter how wonderful your eyeshadow looks or the technique that you've used, no one will notice without a set of great looking lashes. Even without eyeshadow, adding mascara will add depth to your eyes and open them up.

Remember these dos and don'ts when creating those luscious lushes.

DO wear non-waterproof mascara for everyday use. Leftover particles from waterproof mascara can damage your lashes because they're harder to remove. Plus they can last on lashes for days even after you wash them off. Use waterproof mascara only when you have to.

DON'T pump the wand in and out of the bottle. This pushes air into the bottle, causing the mascara to dry up faster and more likely to form clumps. Instead, swirl the brush back and forth inside the bottle to get more mascara out.

DO use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes and open up the eye. Begin at the root of the lashes. Be careful not to get any skin into the curler. Press the curler together and hold for a few seconds. Move out the curler out to the end of your lashes and repeat.

DO apply the mascara by starting at the base of the lash and then sweep up to the end of the lash. Use a back and forth motion while moving the wand up your lashes. This will help give your lashes a rich, full look. Repeat the motion until you get your lashes as thick as you want. Usually two to three coats are enough.

DO apply a second coat before the first coat dries up to avoid clumps.

DO apply a second or third coat just on the tips of the lashes to build out the length.

DO use a lash comb to unclump your lashes.

DO use two kinds of mascara to avoid clumps forming on your lashes. Use a defining mascara to separate your lashes. Finish it off with a volumizing mascara for a thicker, more dramatic look.

DON'T add water to your mascara to try to make it thinner and less clumpy. This can add germs into your mascara and put you at risk of an eye infection. Better to get a fresh tube than risk an infection.

DO avoid metallic or glittery eye makeup if you have dry eyes. The flakes from metallic or glittery eye makeup can irritate dry eyes. Glitters can also inflame the cornea, the dome-shaped covering in front of the eye, especially those who wear contact lenses.

Do throw away eye makeup three months after you've opened it. Bacteria can easily grow in liquid eye makeup like mascara, creamy eye liners or eye shadow.

DO attach the center of the fake lash first when applying a strip of fake lashes. Dot the glue on the base and wait for a few seconds for the glue to thicken. Then Use your tweezers to stick the strip to the center of your lash line. Then bend the fake lash following the shape of the eye. Attach it at the outer and inner corners.

DO give your eyes a break when wearing fake lashes. Too much glue can wear your natural lashes. For instance, give your eyes a break over the weekend if you're wearing fake lashes throughout the work week.

DO remove fake lashes at night before you sleep. Use an eye makeup remover to wipe off the glue used for the fake lashes.

DON'T heat your eyelash curler with a hair dryer. You'll risk burning your eyelashes if you do. Just replace your eyelash curler with a new one if it isn't working for you.

DO choose an eyelash curler that's not too wide for the shape of your eye and has an easy grip for your hands.

DO use an eyelash conditioner at night to keep your lashes from becoming dry and brittle. Apply the conditioner after taking of fake lashes and after washing off glue and eye makeup. You can use an over-the-counter lash conditioners or petroleum-jelly like Vaseline or Aquaphor.
