United States presidential candidate Donald Trump was reportedly wooing Princess Diana after her divorce from Prince Charles. A source claimed he had thought of the princess as the “ultimate trophy wife.”

BBC presenter Selina Scott told The Sunday Times that Trump was persistent in getting the princess’ affections to the point that it gave Diana the “creeps.” The American billionaire reportedly lavished the late princess with bouquet after bouquet of flowers each costing hundreds of pounds.

“As the roses and orchids piled up at her [Diana's] apartment she came increasingly concerned about what she should do. It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her,” Scott said.

Scott revealed that the late Princess Diana had asked for her help on what to do with Trump’s courtship. Selina recalled hearing the princess laugh when she had suggested throwing away the flowers for a start.

Trump’s attempt to win Diana’s affections was halted when the princess died in a tragic car accident in 1997 in Paris. Scott said Donald had considered it as his “biggest regret” that he hadn’t dated the princess before her death.

“He said that he always thought he had a chance of romance and would have had a 'shot' with her,” Scott revealed.

The Express says Trump himself admitted his interest on the princess in his 2007 book “The Art of the Comeback.” The lines " She lit up the room with her charm, her presence. She was a genuine princess - a dream lady,” was reportedly used to describe Princess Diana.

A spokesman for Trump also admitted that the 69-year old had a great relationship with Diana, according to News.com.au. The source said they liked each other a lot however nothing serious or romantic ever came out of their relationship.

Trump has been making headlines as he continues with his presidential campaign. CNN reports that at one point while visiting Des Moines, Iowa on Aug. 15 to give a speech, he had a conversation with 9-year old William Bowman who had asked him if he was Batman. Trump, who has grandchildren of his own, was on a helicopter ride with William and the rest of his younger brothers and mother when he replied with a definite “I am Batman.”
