Ever since "Doctor Who" Series 8 came to an end in early November, fans have been eager for its return. Nonetheless, BBC's long-running sci-fi show's Christmas special episode is not too far. Fans must brace themselves to witness yet another explosive segment this holiday season. Details about the highly anticipated episode have started to surface teasing exciting storyline. Here are few spoilers on "Doctor Who" Christmas Special 2014. Read on to find out what to expect. [Warning: Spoilers Alert!]

The upcoming episode of "Doctor Who" is titled "Last Christmas" and it seems it's going to be an explosive one. This year, the network is going to air its tenth Christmas Special and first one featuring Peter Capaldi. Like each year, the segment will air on the Christmas Day.

The channel has recently revealed its plot details in a brief summary teasing exciting spoilers. According to the BBC media report, the 12th Doctor and his assistant Clara Oswald will "face their last Christmas." Things don't look too good for duo as they are said to be "trapped on an Arctic base." The remote land presents deadly challenges for Doctor Who and Clara as it is "under attack from terrifying creatures."

Radio Times speculates that these mysterious creatures mentioned in the summary of "Last Christmas" could be the "slimy Alien-Life monsters" that were shown in the episode's trailer.

During the finale of Series 8, Doctor Who and Clara said goodbye to each other with lies. Clara tells the Time Lord that she and Danny have reconciled and Doctor tells her that he finally located Gallifrey. However, fans must not fret as the powerful duo is set to reunite and undertake the new adventure in North Pole.

Meanwhile, the abovementioned publication further speculates that "Doctor Who" Christmas Special 2014 may hold reference to the 1982 horror flick "The Thing" by John Carpenter. The website notes similarities between the plot of the movie and the upcoming segment of the show. The basic premise of the movie revolved around happenings in a remote Arctic establishment wherein the characters battled "shapeshifting monster."

Earlier in November, the network released a special teaser trailer on its official YouTube channel, giving a glimpse at "Doctor Who" Christmas special Episode "Last Christmas." The trailer featured mysterious creature, Peter Capaldi and Santa Claus. Furthermore, a poster was released on show's official Facebook account, recently.
