There have been previous reports that “Doctor Strange” will not be an origin story. However, if Scott Derrickson’s recent tweet is to be taken as in indication into the film’s production, then it’s likely for it to be an “origin story.”

“Doctor Strange” writer and director Scott Derrickson recently took to his Twitter page to tease a possible plot detail into the story of his movie adaptation of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme. On April 12, he shared a post which hints the film's plot to be an origin story.

He didn’t supply any hashtags to his post to indicate if it refers to “Doctor Strange.” But one user’s comment asked for the director to “ask Marvel to restart the Doctor Strange comics in advance of the movie.”

However, contrary to his recent post, Scott Derrickson once teased the possibility of “Doctor Strange” also being a non-origin story. The director has been providing subtle hints on his production of the film on his Twitter page. He once shared a comicbook art of the Sorcerer Supreme from the “Strange Tales #110” comic book, where it shows Strange meeting a hooded figure.

“Strange Tales #110” reportedly tells the story of Doctor Strange entering a businessman’s dreams upon the latter’s request. There in the man’s dreams he meets the “Ancient One.” He also meets Nightmare, who, according to Samurai Frog, is dubbed in the comics as the “ancient foe” and “ruler of the Dream Dimension.”

Whether plot details in the film will also include this comic book scene is still unknown, considering this comic version is said to be a non-origin story. According to Comics Bulletin, “Strange Tales #110” tells the story of Doctor Strange already as a Sorcerer Supreme. Scott Derrickson sharing a photo from the comic book version reportedly teased his intent on having “Doctor Strange” as a non-origin story.

Kevin Feige recently also gave some updates on the production of “Doctor Strange.” He said during an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz that Scott Derrickson and crew are currently scouting for film locations. “They're just finishing scouting in New York City for certain buildings that Doctor Strange inhabits,” he said. According to Comicbookmovie, Feige also revealed that principal photography for the film will be done in London in November.
