Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been virtually inseparable – at least in show business – as the two “Sherlock” actors could reunite on the silver screen with “Doctor Strange.”

During the recent San Diego Comic Convention, Cumberbatch did not dismiss a possible reunion with Freeman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cumberbatch leads the cast of “Doctor Strange” as Dr. Stephen Strange, while Freeman debuted in the MCU when he played the role of Everett Ross, a member of the joint counter-terrorist centre, in the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War.”

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Cumberbatch said he didn’t know if Freeman would join the cast of “Doctor Strange,” which is set for release on Nov. 4 in the US and Oct. 27 in Australia.

“I don’t know, that could be possible I guess. I mean you know, the Venn diagram of the Marvel Universe brings people together from all sorts of places. Who knows, who knows… I don’t, so that’s my get out is ignorance,” Cumberbatch said.

Cumberbatch and Freeman have been cast together as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson respectively on the BBC TV series that debuted on July 25, 2010. The two also shared the silver screen for “The Hobbit,” with Freeman playing the role of Bilbo Baggins while Cumberbatch playing the role of the perilous dragon Smaug.

“We work really hard. I adore him. He’s one of the funniest man on the planet. He is so fast and we both really really love the show,” Cumberbatch added, referring to “Sherlock.”

The trailer of “Sherlock” season 4 was released last week, and Cumberbatch admitted that it is the “darkest” installment of the series.

“It’s very dark,” Cumberbatch said. “It’s the same strain of trademark humour, the relationships are strong and deep and really complexified by what goes on. It’s fast, it’s funny. It’s got a lot of action, a lot of twists and turns. It’s everything that Sherlock has been but evolved to a really exciting level.”
