Benedict Cumberbatch was recently confirmed for the title role in "Doctor Strange." In an interview the actor talks about his involvement in the movie and what viewers can expect to see from the film.

The Wall Street Journal caught up with the "Sherlock Holmes" star over the phone while the actor was en route to the Palm Springs Festival on Saturday, Jan. 3. Benedict Cumberbatch was asked about his movie "Imitation Game," but apparently the conversation led to his new role as Dr. Stephen Strange. The actor was asked if it was a risk for him to take on the character of Sorcerer Supreme, to which he admitted there's no risk when it comes to Marvel. "Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods," he replied.

When pressed for details regarding "Doctor Strange," Cumberbatch declined to reveal any spoilers. When asked whether the movie would film in the Himalayas, the actor merely asked for viewers to "wait and see," although he did reveal his excitement over the film's "spiritual dimension," which he claimed has been a big part of his life. Likewise, the actor revealed it's the "Astral Plane" dimension of the movie that inspired or motivated him to accept the role of Doctor Strange. "There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character," he added.

It's still uncertain how the Sorcerer Supreme will be introduced in any of the upcoming Marvel films prior to his standalone movie. According to a previous report from the International Business Times, the trailer for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" showed some hints as to the character's presence.

In the Marvel comics, prior to becoming Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange was a rich neurosurgeon. From the trailer below, there is the presence of medical equipment relating to his profession. From the 1:27 time mark viewers can see a gurney and some surgical equipment. Likewise, at the 1:14 mark, Captain America enters an abandoned mansion atop a hill, which is believed to be Doctor Strange's place of refuge.

Additionally, "Captain America: Civil War" will supposedly also have a reference to the Sorcerer Supreme. According to a spoiler, the movie will reportedly bring Captain Steve Rogers and his team of superhumans into hiding in Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum.

Doctor Strange" is slated for a U.S. release on Nov. 4, 2016. So far only Benedict Cumberbatch has been confirmed as part of the cast.
